Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 21, 2026

What We Collect

Google Account Information: Name, email, and user ID via Firebase Authentication, used for account identification only.

Task and Note Data: All task and note data is stored in Google Firestore under the user's own account.

Appearance Preferences: Theme mode, wallpaper choice, and accent colour are stored locally in chrome.storage.local only — never transmitted to any server.

What We Do Not Collect

Notelayer does not collect or transmit:

  • Browsing history
  • Page content you visit
  • Data for advertising purposes
  • Analytics or usage tracking

Third Parties

Notelayer relies on the following third-party services:

  • Firebase Authentication — for sign-in and account verification
  • Google Firestore — for data storage and sync
  • Google Fonts — for typography

All third-party services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

  • Firestore data is retained until you delete it or delete your account via the Notelayer iOS app.
  • Local preferences stored in chrome.storage.local are cleared when the extension is uninstalled.

Chrome Extension Permissions

The Notelayer Chrome extension requests the following permissions:

  • storage — to save appearance preferences locally
  • activeTab — to attach the side panel to your current tab
  • contextMenus — to enable right-click task capture
  • offscreen — to run Firebase Auth (required by Chrome's MV3 architecture; this is Google's recommended pattern)
  • sidePanel — to provide the main extension UI
  • tabs — to open Google Calendar when adding tasks to calendar

Children Under 13

Notelayer is not directed at children under 13.
